Our Heritage
We are a part of India's Tata Group of business enterprises launched by its Founder, Jamsetji Tata, over a century ago, during the early years of the SWARAJ (Independence) movement . Jamsetji's conviction that Political Freedom could result only if preceded by Economic Freedom led him into the world of manufacturing business- quite a challenge for a person coming from agrarian background.
From the humble beginning of a single textile mill in Central India, the Group has grown into a
conglomerate of more than a hundred companies with turnover of approximately 10 Billion US dollars and an employee strength of about 270,000. Its business interests range from
Steel, Automobiles, Cement, Power, Chemicals, Telecommunications, Textiles,
Leather, Computers & Softwares to Hotels, Tea & several consumer & industrial
products.
It has played a major role in Nation Building by bequething to Indian Society a large number of Institutions contributing
to Health, Education, Art & Culture, along with Reasearch & Development in
Fundamental Seciences, Medicine & Modern Business Management.
For fifty two years J.R.D. Tata headed the Tata Group with uncommon success.
His life spanned almost the whole of the twentieth century(1904-93).
During that period, he put Indian Industry on the World Map
by establishing many successful Joint-ventures with world-reknowned Companies.
His reputation for impeccable business ethics was his greatest asset; combined
with his drive for Excellence, it enabled him to achieve phenomenal success
in his endeavors. He brought to India the gift of civil aviation in 1932 and later, in 1948, pioneered the
first and only Indian Airlines by launching Air India International.
He was pained by the poverty he saw around him; a philanthropist
who wanted India to be 'a happy country' and did all that he could to
make it so; a man with a passion for literature, fast cars, skiing and,
of course flying.

In the early Seventies, the TATA Group joined hands with the Singapore government to
establish a much-needed facility for training skilled craftsmen in
various disciplines.
Tata Government Training Center(TGTC) was the first Training
Institute of its kind in Singapore.
Toolmaking, Precision machining, Electrical
& Hydraulic installation as well as Mold making, Millwright
work and other trades were included in the curriculam.
In 1972, supported by EDB (Economic Development Board of Singapore) TATA made its first manufacturing venture in Singapore, with
the Development Bank of Singapore Ltd as a Major
Shareholder. This Company, TATA PRECISION INDUSTRIES PTE LTD, provides to
the many manufacturing companies a much
needed service in the area of precision machining, tooling, molding and assembly.
Eversince, TPI has grown from strength to strength and like other TATA
companies, it has built for itself a reputation for Integrity, Quality and Reliability.
